Mandarin Orange Pumpkin Hummus

Thinking of what to serve before Thanksgiving dinner? Try this light, delicious Mandarin Orange Pumpkin Hummus. Here is a recipe that Karen swears by, but also likes to add her own special touch by incorporating Bondolio Mandarin Orange Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. It gives the pumpkin hummus a lovely citrus flavor. It is best served with a colorful array of seasonal crudités that will help tie your guests over until the big feast.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons lemon juice

2 tablespoons tahini

3 cloves garlic

¾ teaspoon salt

2 (15 ounce) cans garbanzo beans, drained

2 teaspoons Bondolio Mandarin Orange extra-virgin olive oil

1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree

1 teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

¼ cup toasted pumpkin seed kernels, or more to taste

1 pinch paprika

Directions:

Pulse lemon juice, tahini, garlic, and salt together in a food processor or blender until smooth. Add garbanzo beans and Bondolio Mandarin Orange extra-virgin olive oil and pulse until smooth. Add pumpkin, cumin, and cayenne pepper; process until well blended. Transfer hummus to a container with a lid and refrigerate at least 2 hours. Fold pumpkin seeds into hummus; garnish with paprika and drizzle with a touch of olive oil.

Olio Nuovo 8 & 15 December 2019

Olio Nuovo Celebration

Each year we enjoy bypassing our filtration system to make a few gallons of special extra virgin oil. This is Bondolio Olio Nuovo. Because Bondolio Olio Nuovo has not been filtered it has a relatively short shelf life – meaning, the window of time to enjoy this special fruit juice is short. We will be offering tastes of this year’s olio Nuovo during our annual Christmas Events.

Bondolio Angel Flight West Fundraiser

This year’s Bondolio Olio Nuovo event celebration of our new oil will again be a fundraising event to support the efforts of Angel Flight West. Contributions of a portion of every sale will go to this incredible organization. And, 100% of the proceeds at the the Bondolio outdoor pizza oven will go to Angel Flight West. We will be making pizza faster than you can say ‘una margherita pizza’.

So who or what is Angel Flight West?

The ability to travel easily across the country is something that we all take for granted. However, for those whose lives are in turmoil, the financial, physical and emotional burdens can make otherwise ordinary trips extraordinarily difficult. That’s when Angel Flight West’s network of 1,400+ volunteer pilots step in. These folks fly their own planes and pay for all costs out of their own pockets, in order to make these critical journeys relatively stress free.

Angel Flight West has its headquarters in Santa Monica, California, where the most amazing people you could ever imagine work as the ground support crew managing the complexity of matching pilots with passengers, coordinating the flights, spreading the word among referral agencies, and continually recruiting new volunteers.

It’s like a small airline, further complicated by the extra care and expense of working with passengers who need our help, their families, as well as medical and hospital personnel.

The beneficiaries of the flight – the passengers and their families, the healthcare organizations – pay nothing at all, ever.

Who are these pilots, and why do they give so much of their time and money to help strangers? They’re engineers, scientists, and teachers. Doctors, lawyers, and corporate executives. Retired commercial pilots and young entrepreneurs. But as different as these men and women might be, they all have two things in common: The love of flying, and the desire to touch people’s lives.

When Angel Flight West began in 1983, the mission was so unique that it was sometimes difficult to convince healthcare providers that they could do what we promised: fly people in private planes for free. It almost seemed too good to be true. But it is true.

Bondolio is sincerely honored to be able to direct your donations to Angel Flight West.

2019 winner of Best of Show at the California State Fair Extra Virgin Olive Oil competition

Once more Bondolio wins top honors at the California State Fair

Almost impossible to do but Bondolio pulled off another sweep of gold medals to win best of show. As in 2017, our oil had to undergo 4 separate competitions all leading up to the final panel of sensory judges tasting our liquid gold olive oil.

To achieve this honor Bondolio first had to win gold as Best of Artisan EVOO (producers of less than 5,000 gallons EVOO per year). Next, as the gold medal winner in the Artisan competition Bondolio advanced to the next level competition of Best in Class where we were awarded the gold medal win as olive cultivars other than the conventional California varietals. Bondolio then advanced to the next level of judging, the medium body EVOO Division where Bondolio took gold. This 3rd gold medal win advanced Bondolio into the ultimate judging, the Best of Show judging. Ultimately Bondolio won gold as Best of Show in the California Extra Virgin Olive Oil competition. Only one Best of Show is awarded in each year’s competition.

Malcolm and I were astonished of the this honor and we are truly humbled by the results at this year’s competition.

Olio Nuovo Event Is Fundraising for Angel Flight West Organization

OLIO NUOVO

Sundays 2, 9 and 16 of December 2018

10 AM to 4 PM  –

Come out to the Bondolio farm to enjoy our new Extra Virgin Olive Oil on the first three Sundays of December 2, 9, 16

The Bondolio pizza oven will be fired up on Saturday so it’s ready to toss out pizzas faster than you can say mozzarella di bufala

Fresh nuovo olio, milled in the first week of November, will be drizzling onto pieces of bread for your tasting enjoyment

What else can you experience at Bondolio?? Here’s a couple examples:

New balsamic treats from one of Karen’s favorite families in Emilia Romagna will be available for tasting

Maple syrup from an amazing family farm in Vermont

And of course the mill will be open for touring – promising a fun time at the farm for one and all.

Aside from pizza, we will be making a simple flat bread in our pizza oven onto which our new oil will be drizzled. This is classic Italian life in the Fall – tasting the new oils fresh from your local olive grower.

So what’s all the fuss around new olive oil? Fresh new olive oil is commonly known as nouvelle or, in Italy, ‘nuovo olio’. New oil is not filtered and has yet to settle down. The fruity, buttery, pungency are all at a maximum sensory value in olio nuovo. In fact, it was a fortuitous taste by Karen of olio nuovo 18 years ago outside of Naples Italy that started the concept of Bondolio. Now our dream is to share that experience with you.

This will be Bondolio’s fourth New Oil event and it’s all about enjoying an Italian tradition. Between mid September through the beginning of December, throughout regions of Southern Italy and Sicily, family farms are busy harvesting their olives which they then take immediately to local mills to squeeze the olive enough to give up its fruit juice, oil.

During this harvest time in both Southern Italy and at Bondolio. the olives are still mostly green, just at the very beginning stages of changing color from a bright green to a softer shade of green. It is at this green stage that the oil of the olive has the taste profile that Karen favors most. For Karen, this is the exact moment when the Sicilian as well as the Bondolio olive oil contains the optimal flavor for her palate.

We have watched many visitors enjoy the slightly spicy taste, the grassy flavors, and the wonderful aromas of Bondolio olio nuovo.

The same experience really does fill the air in rural villages throughout southern Italy.

Stop by Bondolio for an experience you normally have to travel thru 8 time zones to enjoy.

If you are flying in, use KEDU and we will shuttle you to the farm. PM kbond@cedaron.com and give us your flight plan.
